Bandai Namco Asia, one of the leading toy maker and arcade, mobile and home video game publishers in Japan, and Takashimaya Department Store, presents an iconic exhibition in celebration of 35TH anniversary of GUNDAM model kit  and in conjunction with Singapores Golden Jubilee the Gundam Docks at Singapore. One of the largest such exhibition outside Japan, the approximately 4,000sqm showcase will include over 200 models of the phenomenal Gundam series the first anime based on space war and machines that sparked off the genre of robotic anime. From 4 to 28 June, the exhibition will be held at Takashimaya Square, B2 and Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza.

Choose your side in the war of robots

The experience begins as two 6 metres tall gigantic robots looms above you at the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza. Witness the fight betweenEarth Federation vs Principality of Zeon as the RX-78-2 Gundam, the largest Gundam to be showcased outside Japan, come face to face with Char’s Zaku at the heart of Singapore’s Orchard Road.

The Gundam and Zaku are arounad 6 metres each, at a scale of 1:3, and weighs two tonnes each. Accompanied by daily light and sound shows held in the evenings, this is an activity you cannot miss as the war drama comes to life before your eyes.

Admission for the exhibition is free, and the exhibition will open from 10am to 9.30pm daily.

Meet the Legend himself The Pioneer of mechanic Designers

Fans will get a chance to meet mechanic designer Kunio Okawara in person. The highly-respected pioneer is Japan’s first mechanic designer, and started his career in 1972. Since then, notable works include Mobile Suit Gundam, Yatterman, The Unchallengeable Daitarn 3, Fang of the Sun Dougram, and Brave Fighter Exkiser.

Kunio Okawara will meet fans in Singapore on 6 June, during the official opening of the exhibition at Takashimaya. Fans will be able to hear more about his experience during a live talk show.


Kunio Okawara (大河原邦男)

He is the first mechanic designer in Japan. Upon joining Tatsunoko Production he worked as mechanic design lead in charge of anime such as “Science Ninja Team Gatchaman” and “Hurricane Polymar”.

After setting out on his own, he worked on the mechanic designs of “Mobile Suit Gundam” and gained great attention. Notable works include “Yatterman”, “The Unchallengeable Daitarn 3”, “Mobile Suit Gundam”, “Fang of the Sun Dougram”, “Votoms”, “Round Vernian Vifam”, “Brave Fighter Exkiser” and many others.

He was born on December 26, 1947 in Tokyo. After graduating from Tokyo Zokei University, he joined an apparel manufacturer. After leaving the company, in 1972 he joined Tatsunoko Production and was placed in charge of the enemy mecha of “Science Ninja Team Gatchaman”. He received great acclamation and became Japan’s first “professional mechanic designer”.

After finishing the “Time Bokan” series, he left Tatsunoko in 1976 and set up “Design Office Mecha Man” with Mitsuki Nakamura and went freelance in 1978. Since then, he has worked on “Mobile Suit Gundam” and other mecha design works from Sunrise.


How to meet Kunio Okawara

On the 6th of June at 3pm, Kunio Okawara will be hosting a talk session followed by his autograph session for the first 100 customers who purchased the HG RX-78-2 GUNDAM Ver. SG50.


Artistes from Gundam Build Fighter Series to be in Singapore

On 20 June, fans will be able to meet the voice actors and actresses (seiyuus) from the anime, Gundam Build Fighter series, in Singapore too. Makino Yui, Togashi Kazumi, and Uchida Yu-uma will be in Singapore to meet the fans. Japanese rock band, BACK-ON, who composed and performed two opening themes for Gundam Build Fighters, will join fans in Singapore on 20 June as well.

They will perform on stage at Takashimaya Square. This is their debut appearance in Singapore.

In celebration of Singapore’s 50th Birthday, Bandai Namco Asia has collaborated with acclaimed mechanic designer Kunio Okawara to create Singapore’s only SG50 Gundam Model Kit.
